by Porsha Olayiwola
February 19, 2019
Lyric Hall Theater, New Haven
Black & Ugly as Ever is a one-person choreopoem that explores what it means to move through reality as a queer, fat, dark-skinned woman. The production utilizes original song, poetry, and movement to discover love of self in a body that occupies multiple marginalized identities. This hour-long production is split between two halves: one that scrutinizes society’s norms and the other that praise the defiance of rigid norms. Be prepared to laugh, cry, think critically, and be a little uncomfortable in this dangerous love story. Click the icon below to read more about the show!
This is Me Everyday
A Musical Review About Personal Identity
by Frank Borelli
July 30, 2019
Lyric Hall Theater, New Haven
This is Me Everyday is a concert based performance with standing microphone and piano accompaniment that explores the life and development to date of Frank Borrelli a queer gay male. Navigating society’s norms while singing songs owned by the patriarchy and professing love for the women who saved and defended him throughout his life is his own Odyssey of sorts. Songs from the American songbook, cultural songs, and Broadway standards mark milestones in the life of a person who is learning the world while recognizing the few places for him to exist in it. It is a celebration of survival, an acceptance of personal tragedy and unrequited love with a heap of wit and love for humanity.
