Feeling
The Art of Alecia Massaro

June 7 – July 30, 2021
Great Room Gallery, New Haven

Artist Statement

I put all of my feelings into my work as if I’m painting with every fallen tear or splat of blood. I like to create moments where the viewer can experience a sensation generated from my artwork. The variety in focuses comes from the inner roller coaster that I’ve been feeling for years now. Extreme highs and the lows impact the subject, the process, and the outcome. Recent abstracts are part of a process of letting go of control and a practice of self acceptance. The transition from realism to a more contemporary state of creativity parallels my conversion to a more authentic self. My work is a representation of what and how I have been feeling.

Meet the Artist

Alecia Massaro (she/they)

Alecia (Lee) Massaro is an up-and-coming American fine artist that primarily works with oil paint. Originally from New Jersey, Alecia moved back to Connecticut in 2014 from the West to finish school and come back down to Earth. She graduated from Paier College of Art with her Bachelor’s in Fine Art in 2020 and a steady focus in portrait art. Since graduating, Lee has been evolving the voice and spirit within themselves so that it transcends through their art and into the viewer’s soul. Her work explores the idea of what it feels like to be alive from her perspective. Their experiences and struggles through life influence every part of their art right down to the choice in palette. She continues to receive commissions and show her work locally and nationally. Most recently her painting “We’re Doing All We Can” was selected for the Women in Art Exhibition at the Las Laguna Art Gallery in Laguna Beach, California.
