The Art of Protest

The Art of Arienne Davey
December 3 – January 31
Great Room Gallery, New Haven

In “The Art of Protest,” Arienne explores the fight for equality, justice, truth, and freedom from oppression through photography. By adjusting the background to black & white, she evokes the protests of the past and the hard truth that people are still fighting the same fights. By keeping the main subject in color, she emphasizes the fact that although these protests are about people coming together to fight for a mutual cause, society should not lose sight of the individual. She believes that documenting and exhibiting these protests will be an important reminder for future generations that “the people united will never be defeated” (César Chávez).
