Join in on your virtual discussion panel where Suyane, Mev Miller, and Alexis Clements will be speaking not only on the preservation of lesbian history but also on the present and future of lesbian culture. This discussion was inspired by the notion of a dying lesbian culture. Will we be able to bust that myth? Join us to find out! Although panels are virtual, they are also interactive! Audience comments and questions will be seen and noted by panelists.

Meet Our Speakers

Alexis Clements (she/her)

Alexis Clements is a writer and filmmaker based in Brooklyn, NY. Her creative work has been published, produced, and screened in venues across the US, Europe, and South America. Her feature-length documentary film, All We’ve Got, which focuses on LGBTQ women’s spaces at a time when many are closing, premiered in October 2019 in New York City and has since screened around the US and internationally. The film also features the Lesbian Herstory Archives. A regular contributor to Hyperallergic, her writing has also appeared in The Los Angeles Review of Books, The Guardian, Bitch Magazine, American Theatre, The Brooklyn Rail, and Nature, among others. In addition to her writing and filmmaking, she is currently serving on the Executive Board of CLAGS, the Center for LGBTQ Studies at the City University of New York (CUNY), and she recently cofounded Little Rainbows, a story time for queer youth and their caretakers and parents at the Archives.

Mev Miller (she/her)
Since the early 1980s, Mev Miller has developed an extensive library of Lesbian/feminist publications – nearly 3,000 volumes and counting. She had been an active participant in the Women in Print Movement as a bookseller, editor, writer, reviewer, promoter, and more. She’s currently the Lesbrarian /Instigator creating Wanderground – a community-based Lesbian Archive/Library in Rhode Island for the New England region.
Erica Rose (she/her)
Erica Rose (she/her) is a Brooklyn based filmmaker. Her work has screened at Academy Qualifying festivals Tribeca, Seattle, Outfest, Flickerfest, and the BAFTA-qualifying Iris Prize Festival. After screening in over 40 festivals internationally, her short film GIRL TALK premiered online with No Budge and currently has over 40 million views. Her writing has been selected to participate in the Outfest Screenwriting Lab, the Middlebury Script Lab, and the Athena Film Festival Writers Lab. She was a finalist for THROUGH HER LENS: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program in both 2018 and 2020. She’s a 2022 grant recipient of the NYC Women’s Fund. She’s directed branded documentaries and commercials for Effen Vodka, TCS NY Marathon, and Parents Magazine and music videos for Sony Music. She co-directed a branded documentary short, The LESBIAN BAR PROJECT about the remaining Lesbian Bars in the US. The film features and is Executive Produced by Lea DeLaria. The project received over 1 billion impressions, was screened at the US Congress, was nominated for the Tribeca X Award, won two Webby’s and was acquired by AMC+/Sundance TV. She’s currently in production for the Roku Original Docu-Series adaptation of the short film also entitled THE LESBIAN BAR PROJECT.
